Melissa graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, with a Bachelor's Degree in Rhetoric. Melissa went on to attend University of California, Hastings School of Law. While attending Hastings, Melissa worked as a law clerk for local Civil Rights Attorney John Burris, in Oakland, California. Melissa went on to graduate from Hastings and obtain her license to practice law in 2015.
After obtaining her license, Melissa stayed on at the Law Offices of John Burris and become an integral part of the team, litigating high profile civil rights cases involving police misconduct and wrongful death all over Northern California.
Melissa's unique background as a former Deputy Sheriff/Deputy Coroner provides her invaluable insight into investigating cases involving police activity resulting in serious injury and/or death.
In early 2019, Melissa went into private practice in her home town of Vallejo, California. Melissa is focused on police reform at the state and local level and advocates for victims of police brutality in and outside of the courtroom. Melissa is very active in the community as a police reform advocate and fights side by side with the community to change the culture of violent policing in America!
